As part of our ongoing series on living a fuller life, being grateful and appreciative of the things we have in our lives is one of the best ways to be happy. Too often, we focus on things that we don’t have and lose sight of the things we do have. This leads us on a spiral of dissatisfaction and we end up constantly disillusioned with our current situations in life.
This November, we want to encourage you to reflect and think about the things in your lives that you are grateful for.
We have listed 3 tips below on how to count your blessings this November!
While Thanksgiving is not widely celebrated in Singapore, we feel that it is always a good practice to count our blessings. One of the traditions of Thanksgiving is spending time with family and giving thanks. We don’t need to have stuffed turkey and cranberry sauce for a meal with our family to have Thanksgiving.
Instead, we can bring our family out for a meal together or find a day this month to have a home-cooked meal together as a family! Especially in Singapore where we’re always out with our own plans, we tend to spend lesser time with our family. Take the opportunity this month to have a meal together and let your loved ones know the things you appreciate them for – especially the fact that they are always there for us unconditionally.
Apart from our families, our friends form our core pillars of support. Sometimes, we might even spend more time with our friends than families! One way you can show your appreciation to your best friend this November is to write them a simple card. It doesn’t have to be a 1000-words essay but most people would appreciate the thoughtfulness of a handwritten card. Considering all the things that they put up with as our friends, we’re sure a simple letter isn’t too much effort to show how grateful we are to have them in our lives!

While loving ourselves too much can border on narcissism, having a bit of self-love is critical to our happiness. No matter how you think 2017 may have gone for you, take a deep breath and appreciate the fact that you’ve gone through 90% of this year!
Give yourself a pat on the back for making it this far. Whether it’s taking that off day to have some time to yourself, going on an overseas trip or pampering yourself with a massage, do something for yourself this November!
