About Us

Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors started with humble beginnings.

Arriving from Nan’an County in Quanzhou, Fujian province, our founder, Mr. Ang See Karr saw the need for quality and essential funeral services for the Chinese community in Singapore. He founded Ang Chin Huat Casket in 1912 operating from a shophouse at Upper Pickering Street . Ang Chin Huat Casket is one of the first few funeral companies established in Singapore and is a pioneer of the local funeral profession.

Since 1912, we have branched out into several other funeral companies.

Besides Ang Chin Huat Casket, we set up Ang Chin Moh Undertakers. Ang Chin Moh Undertakers then renamed itself to Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors as it transitioned towards a modern and professional service provider. Over the years, we moved into several premises, from Rochore Road to old Liang Seah Street. Today, we are in new premises at Block 88 Geylang Bahru. Having served families for over a century is a testament to our service excellence. Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors remains committed to serving families with care, compassion, and dignity.

Our milestones include the grooming of Singapore’s first female embalmer in 1990, the setting up of Western Casket in 2000 to cater to the needs of the Christian community. Flying Home was also set up for the repatriation needs of Singaporeans and foreign nationals. In 2010, the fourth-generation owner of Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors, Mr. Ang Ziqian successfully got the lease of the disused Mount Vernon Columbarium site. Following extensive renovations, the disused crematorium was turned into Mount Vernon Sanctuary, offering 6-star funeral service halls for grieving families and other funeral directors. Mr Ang Ziqian saw the need to dispel the fears and taboos surrounding dying, death, and funerals through public education. He set up the Ang Chin Moh Foundation in 2012 to focus its aim of enhancing perception of death and bereavement among the public, through philanthropic causes, public education, research, and heritage preservation.

Team never fails to deliver – they worked fervently and respectfully to ensure my extended family could pay their last respects and grieve without worry. The future is neither predictable nor controllable, but Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors will always be here to faithfully serve the needs of those who are going through their darkest moments of their lives.

Ang Chin Moh Foundation is an independent registered charity under the Charities Act (Chapter 37) since 23 January 2014. Established in December 2012 on the centennial anniversary of Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors, the Foundation aims to enhance the perception of death and bereavement among the public, especially among younger Singaporeans through public education, heritage and charity. A thought leader in the funeral profession with a focus on innovation and radical philanthropy, it is the first such institution in Singapore that incorporates educational projects with research to foster greater awareness towards death and the funeral profession.

A key goal of the Foundation is the changing of public mindsets, perceptions and stereotypes towards the issue of dying and death in Singapore. In turn, this would lead to a wider recognition of the funeral profession as an essential public service and a receptacle of cultural capital in a cosmopolitan city state. More importantly, the Foundation seeks to be the catalyst to improve the death-literacy of Singaporeans through active public outreaches, and in so doing enhances Singaporeans’ attitudes towards their own mortality, uplift the standards of the funeral and bereavement sector and expand the funeral profession’s capacity to meaningfully contribute back to the larger society.
