Buddhist and Taoist Funeral use these badges made from cloth as a tool to signify the relationship between the deceased and the living. Different dialect groups will have a slightly different set of badge design. In olden days, it is also used as a sign of mourning where bereaved family members wear them for 49 days. Now, bereaved family will remove the badges after the funeral.
